Yes that is the fix for doing this, on UK cars its on the left, so LHD it should be on the right, just 4 screws holding down the lid, slide the grey first plug forward and pull it out, the lift the handle that goes round the front and it lifts out. Replaced that fuse and sure enough the pump started working again. So my problem pointed to a defective PSE but turned out to have been a simple interior dome light fuse that was broken. So if someone needs a working PSE for their R170 I will have one for sale in the classifieds. Lesson learned: Check your fuses.
Installed N10-3 module, with everything connected the #7 5 amp fuse still blows. With S84 Roof Switch unplugged, fuse #7 blows. With N10-3 Module unplugged, fuse #7 does not blow. With N10-3 unplugged, good fuse in #7, Batt. voltage at pin 2 Pink/Blk of Roof Switch socket. Have to have diagnostic scan performed.

Recommendations for R170 SLK320 Service or Repair Manuals. Fellow SLK owners, looking for recommendations on a Service Manual for my 2001 SLK320. The only service / repair manuals I've been able to find are downloadable PDF files or memory sticks but would much prefer hard copy. Thanks in advance for any guidance here !! Apparently the engineers did not believe there was a suitable location on the other side of the engine compartment where the battery is located. If you look above the battery label you will notice an air conditioning label as well - nowhere near any air conditioning component. Checked the fuses for the instrument cluster, checked battery voltage and charging voltage both OK. Removed the K40 replay and gave it a bunch of stiff raps while watching the lights, no flicker and no change. Scanned the car and no codes at all, was able to read values from various modules. Any ideas appreciated.
2619 posts · Joined 2014. #8 · May 10, 2018. The air pump is operated by power from the front SAM. The relay is known for failing. Make sure the air pump is in fact running on a cold start. Have the hood open and ready to feel the air pump to confirm it is operating when someone starts the cold engine whle you confirm.
BTW, here is the fuse location chart . . .The fuses you want to look at are 27,28 & 37 located in the cockpit fuse box. They also supply current to the roof, airscarf, seat adjustment and a few other odds & ends. Horn Wiring, fuse location. Well, it started with me not caring for the body color font grille on my car, a 1998 SLK230, silver. So I decided to take it off, and paint it black, leaving the nice chrome MBZ star on a flat black field. Looks great. In the process, I noticed that the horns are located behind this grill, and remembered that mine The four terminals at the rear left fuse box (eng. compartment)all have power to them (2 all the time) the other two with ignition on. I followed the wiring harness to the right side under hood to the box that holds the PSE, and whatever else is in there. There;s 4 or 5 fuses there and they are fine too.
Hi guys, my 2001 SLK320 has the dreaded BAS/ESP light on. I installed new brake light switch, no change. Took to indy garage who pulled two codes C1000 "ESP/BAS control unit N47-5 unit faulty: and code C1529 "Precharging of control module N47-5 not available". He is pretty sure that the car needs a new BAS/ESP module located on the ABS pump.
132 posts · Joined 2011. #3 · Sep 13, 2012. I repaired the ABS module on my 98 Volvo V70. As you say - very much like a K40 repair, except that it was harder to open the ABS module box on the Volvo. As I recall, there was a clear coat of silicone on the PCB in the Volvo - don't know if that is the case on the MB.
Power supply for items added should be drawn from a spare fuse location using the correct terminals which MB can supply for peanuts, if there are no spare locations then add another small fuse box in a convenient location. Anything else is just a bodge, and in some cases it ends up chafing and failing or worse still if incorrectly fused.
