quite simple, gw1 was NOTHING like gw2 in terms of how the servers are set up. it did the instanced stuff due to limitations, now gw2 uses a mega server type of set up where servers only matter in pvp.

Exactly why I switched to GW2 after years of trying to keep up with ESO. Take a break from ESO and your guilds kick you so you can't sell anything, you spend weeks trying to figure out the new combat system (it's always changing), there are a million new expansions to buy.
